Discussion Notes of a Board of Directors Meeting
The Patterson Lake Association of Lanark Highlands
1980 Saunderson Dr, Ottawa, ON
April 14, 2008
Present: Ted Manning and Lorne Bowerman.
Regrets: Howard Stanley, Jack Hobbs and Rhodena Bell.
Ted opened the meeting at 7:45 PM. Because a quorum requires three, no meeting could be held. After discussion, Ted and Lorne decided to hold discussions on the published agenda rather than call another meeting. There were no urgent decisions required. Lorne and Ted accepted the agenda as published.
Neither Ted nor Lorne had comments on the minutes of the last meeting on October 28, 2008. Approval of the minutes will await a future Board meeting.
Financial: Because Howard was not there, there was no financial report. No bills were presented for payment.
Lake Management Plan. After the last meeting, Lorne, Ted, and Howard had completed the Lake Level Fact Sheet. It has been published to the website. That completes all the fact sheets that the Board thought were necessary. Ted and Lorne had a good discussion on where we go from here. It was agreed that the next step would be to have an open meeting of Lake property owners to discuss the state of the Lake, and derive what they consider needs attention and what they are satisfied with. The meeting was tentatively set for the afternoon of June 13 at the Watsons Corners Hall. The Board will be asked to confirm this date before Lorne reserves the Hall. Ted suggestion for the format was to break into five or six groups to generate ideas. The ideas would then be presented to all participants. The subjects would be listed and each participant would be given five voting stickers to place on what they considered important. After that the Board would review the results and set up a further meeting, possibly combined with the AGM, to discuss specifics. As notification for the meeting, Ted will provide an article for the next newsletter. Lorne and Ted will find links to published LMP from other lakes that could give members an idea of the format and coverage of subjects.
Lorne reported that he and his grandson had put out the marker buoys on the shoal rock on April 13. The rock is about six inches under water and dangerous.
Lorne and Ted both commented on the high lake level this spring. Lorne said it was the highest he had recorded since he started keeping records in 1995. Ted noted a number of new residences being built and would like to have a count done for the record.
Ted will look at the possibility of having a summer event. He will phone the people who offered to help organize an event at the last AGM.
The next newsletter will be May 14. Ted will provide an article about the LMP session. The rest of the newsletter will be filled with the Lake Level Fact Sheet.
The next regular meeting will hosted by Lorne, at the Lake, at 151 Lakeside Rd on Saturday, June 20, 2008 at 2:00 PM. The meeting adjourned at 8:20 PM
